On Friday we had a very successful first meeting, with a wide ranging discussion on our experiences as men working in a field dominated by women. We discussed the need to develop the network and talked about the next steps for this group. The decisions made were that we;

1) We need to concentrate on finding the male early childhood students and practitioners and inviting them to join the group
2) We need to develop our web presence and opportunities for networking

The group felt that a facebook page would be more effective than the current wiki page and so I have established a Men in Early Childhood England page on facebook. The goals that we have set ourselves for the period until the end of February are;

1) To have 50-100 members on the facebook page
2) To have an active an discussion within the facebook page with people sharing their stories on how they cam to be working in early childhood services.

Welcome to the very first Men in Early Childhood England site - the aim of this site is simple;

1) to act as a common registration point for people interested in promoting the participation of men within all early years services in the UK
2) through the discussion forums to provide networking opportunities and promote communication
3) to enable us to keep you informed of progress towards a national summit of men in early childhood UK

Over time it is hoped to expand this site to include information and links that you will find relevant and interesting however at this stage the most important task is to build the network, so please take every opportunity to promote men in early childhood UK to everyone you think might be interested.
